PA FOP, STATE TROOPERS ASSOCIATION ENDORSE PA REPUBLICAN SLATE OF STATEWIDE CANDIDATES

The Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge (PA FOP) and the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association (PSTA) today endorsed the commonwealth’s slate of Republican candidates running for statewide office at the PA FOP 48th Biennial Conference. Those endorsed are:

U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick is a seventh generation Pennsylvanian. He’s a West Point graduate and combat veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the Army, McCormick earned his doctorate in international relations from Princeton University before moving to Pittsburgh to start a career in business. He worked his way up to become the CEO of FreeMarkets, a successful tech startup that employed hundreds in Western Pennsylvania. In 2005, McCormick was called to service again as under secretary of Treasury and as deputy national security advisor, where he spearheaded the fight to protect American technology from Chinese theft and advised President George W. Bush on key national security issues.

Attorney General candidate Dave Sunday serves as York County’s district attorney, where he oversees approximately 9,000 criminal cases annually and leads the county’s efforts to increase public safety, promote community well-being, and fight against violence and illegal drugs. A U.S. Navy veteran, Sunday served in the Persian Gulf, where he participated in Operation Desert Strike. He was also deployed to South America and conducted numerous counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean.

Auditor General Tim DeFoor is running for re-election and is uniquely qualified to serve Pennsylvania citizens with more than a quarter century of combined experience in law enforcement and auditing. As auditor general, he oversees over 4,000 audits annually to ensure state tax dollars are being used effectively and efficiently. DeFoor previously investigated government and contractor fraud, waste and abuse in the Office of State Inspector General before becoming a special agent for the attorney general, investigating Medicaid fraud and illegal prescription drug diversion. Prior to be elected auditor general, he was twice elected as Dauphin County controller, serving as the auditor for all county finances.

Treasurer Stacy Garrity is running for re-electionas the steward of over $150 billion in commonwealth funds. During her first term, she returned more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners. A veteran and retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Garrity has returned hundreds of military decorations being safeguarded in Treasury’s vault. She has returned more than 380 military decorations to the veterans who earned them or their families, including six Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars.

“These candidates have a deep understanding and respect for the rule of law,” said state FOP President Joe Regan. “We’re proud to endorse a slate with a track record of outstanding accomplishments as public servants and for their support of the law enforcement community.”

PTSA President Stephen Polishan said, “We’re endorsing true public servants who understand the mission of law enforcement and support providing local and state police with the resources they need to do their jobs and go home safely.”
